We are aware of our responsibility and dependence on a healthy planet. Therefore, we have undertaken various actions to protect the planet and animals, in order to reduce our impact on the environment.
Issues with palm oil led us to buy Organic palm oil with an Ecocert and CSPO certification. Why?
We believe that palm oil (extracted from the pulp of the palm fruit) and palm kernel oil (extracted from the kernel of the palm fruit) improve the quality of soap, as they gently clean and nourish the epidermis in depth. They are indeed very rich in fatty acids, that have regenerating and moisturizing properties and in carotenoids, precursors of vitamin A, which protect and soften the skin. Palm oil, originally from Guinea, has been used in cosmetics for two centuries and contributed to the rise of Phocean soap factories. Its use is not new since it is found in jars unearthed in Egyptian tombs over 5,000 years.
The problem is the recent intensive monoculture of oil palm in Indonesia and Malaysia, two countries that concentrate 85% of the world production, and cause an ecological disaster: deforestation leading to disappearance of many species, pollution, reduction of biodiversity, etc. Substitute products such as coconut oil or soybean oil are not better ecologically, because these plants, less efficient, require larger cultivated areas.
Therefore, we decided to buy these products only to an Ecocert-certified Organic producer, located outside Southeast Asia and, especially as recommended by WWF and Oxfam, a RSPO (Roundtable Sustainable Palm Oil) certified producer who provides only CSPO oil (Certified Sustainable Palm Oil). Today these are the labels that guarantee a sustainable industry and rational agriculture.
